Printed sources search
is one of Scotland's Culture's main searching tools. The
printed sources search is powered by CAIRNS
(Co-operative Information Retrieval for Scotland).
Printed sources search allows you
to search for books, pamphlets, journals, maps, and many
other printed items held by libraries throughout Scotland.
You can select some or all of the available libraries and
carry out a one-stop search by subject, author, or title
keyword.
Many of the libraries display details
of how many copies they have of a particular item and whether
they are available for borrowing. If you wish to consult
any items, please contact the library directly, or ask your
local public library to obtain an inter-library loan.
Most of the libraries contain items
about a full range of subjects, and not just those pertaining
to Scottish topics, so expect to find general resources
as well as Scotland's culture. Some of the libraries also
contain electronic resources such as CD-ROMs, digital images,
and websites.
Connect to the printed sources search in CAIRNS by using
this button.
You will then see a screen prompting you for your search
term. Your term will be searched against subject, author
and title keywords in all available libraries, so it might
take a bit of time.
If you want to carry out more precise
searches, use the Advanced search facility.
When you have finished, use the button
at the bottom of the screen to return to Scotland's Culture.
You can find additional help on each
page of CAIRNS.
