People provides a quick 'point and click' facility for finding information about a person or group of people in Scottish culture.
People represents a selection of resources that can be found through Scotland's Culture, use our
search facility for more specific searches.

There are three ways to find people:

  • If you know where your person is listed use browse by people
Select a link on the left-hand side of the screen to navigate through the name lists.

Select your search target from the options presented in the drop downlist, where available and click '
    go':
    • Scotland's Culture - electronic resources
    • SCONE (Scottish Collections Network) - collections
    • CAIRNs (Co-operative Information Retrieval Network) - items
  • If you are not sure where your person might be listed use the A-Z people list
A-Z shows all people listed within the service, displaying related names to an occupation and which preferred form of name the service has used.
    (e.g. Robert Burns
    see Burns, Robert).

Broader, narrower and related names are shown as BT [+] NT [+] and See. Use the
+ symbol to expand and - symbol to collapse a list.

People listed on the left of the screen will take you to the relevant search. BT, NT and See people listed on the right will direct you to the preferred name in the A-Z list.
  • If you are not sure where the service has addded a person, use 'search people' box
